UPDATED 11 p.m.
DURHAM -- Police have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with a bank robbery in Greene County Thursday afternoon.
Jeremiah Smith, of Conesville, was arrested shortly after the robbery, which occurred at about 3 p.m. Police say Smith entered Legacy Bank in East Durham and demanded money. He did not show weapon, police tell a photographer at the scene.
Smith was caught shortly afterward, and told police he'd robbed the bank “because he was desperate."
He’s charged with robbery and is in jail until he can make the $50,000 cash bail, police said.
